Greetings Friends,

As we roll into autumn and the weather gets colder, we tend to spend more time inside, and here at Parkerville, we see the change in our daily business. More visitors are coming in and those who are good planners are thinking about holiday gift ideas. With that in mind, we just brought in a nice selection of imported lumber and have filled our short rack with an incredible collection of super colorful woods from around the world. Perfect for small projects and cutting boards. We also have longer lumber in almost all species for larger projects. Included in that delivery is a stack of Gabon Ebony. It’s our most expensive wood at $117.00 to $135.00 per board foot.  Not too many large projects are being built with that.

I’d like to welcome Eddie White to our inside sales/customer service team. Eddie’s family was in the lumber business and he has extensive experience in so many things that we do here at Parkerville. Eddie has previously worked for large kitchen cabinet companies, lumber yards, and commercial hardware suppliers including one of our vendors. Eddie’s background and skillset, as well as his customer base, is already helping us grow and diversify. He may be answering your questions the next time you call in.

For the third time in my business life, I’m considering purchasing a very large quantity of lumber from a private seller. The first time was about 11 years ago when I bought a barn full of lumber in Northwestern MA. It was 9 flatbed tractor-trailer loads and took about 7 years to sell. The majority of that was Maple. The second time was earlier this year when we bought some of the assets of The Woodery in Lunenburg MA. We are still working on that project. Still, lots of wood there that we continue to move to CT to sell. This time it’s a building full of some beautiful lumber, mostly Cherry and Walnut. It totals around 55,000 board feet of wood (about 5 large flatbed trailer loads) but the big attraction is about 8000 b.f. of some of the nicest 8/4 Black Walnut I’ve ever seen. Supposedly it was sawn for the Japanese market about 3 or 4 years ago. It’s not done yet but I’m hoping to close on the deal sometime within the next week or so.

Wood sales and milling continue to be strong thanks to all of you. Our custom fabrication shop also continues to be busy with recent projects starting for Synchrony Bank in Stamford, a residence in Flamands in the Caribbean, and three Eversource locations in NH to name a few. I thank you for supporting our team.

If you have never been here, please stop in. We’ll be happy to show you around and you can see these projects being built on our factory floor. I hope to see you at the shop.

Sincerely,

David Harris
