The Story of the Rocking Horse

October 2, 2023 | 2 min read | By: David Harris

In the early 1980s, the design for this rocking horse was inspired by a small 6-inch-long wooden toy rocking horse that was made in Europe. Passionate about the shape and design of this toy, I scaled the design up from 6 inches to 60 inches long and manufactured several of the horses. Through contacts that I had with a Connecticut designer, two of the horses became part of the Christmas Décor at the White House during the Carter administration.

In the early 1980’s only ninteen (19) of these unique horses were built.  Then in 2016, two (2) prototype horses were built, followed by a production of eight (8) more, limited-edition and numbered horses.  Each was engraved with Parkerville Wood Products, Inc. on the underside.

To date, less than 30 of these heirloom quality horses have been built. These sturdy horses have provided decades of enjoyment for both children and adults alike.  These horses are no longer available for purchase.
